States Must Ensure Women’s Safety: PM Modi At Red Fort

During his address from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern regarding the rising incidents of violence against women in India, particularly in light of recent protests following the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata. He acknowledged the public outrage and emphasized that both society and state governments must take these issues seriously.

Modi stated, “As a society, we will have to think seriously about the atrocities against women… Speedy investigation of crimes against women and strict punishment for those executing these monstrous deeds is essential to instill confidence in society.” He highlighted the importance of swift investigations and severe penalties for offenders to restore public trust and deter future crimes.

The Prime Minister also noted that discussions surrounding the punishment of such criminals are often overlooked in mainstream media, which diminishes the perceived consequences of these acts. He urged for greater public discourse on the outcomes of these cases to instill fear in potential offenders, stating, “Those who commit such sins should know that they will be hanged”.
