Two days after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to PM Modi about BJP leaders’ comments on Rahul Gandhi, BJP chief JP Nadda responded by highlighting derogatory remarks made by Congress members against the Prime Minister.
Nadda criticized Rahul Gandhi, accusing Congress of rebranding a “failed product,” and recalled Sonia Gandhi’s previous derogatory comment about Modi, questioning Congress’s political decorum.
Mr. Nadda criticized the Congress for becoming a “copy & paste” party under Rahul Gandhi’s influence, adopting his flaws. He listed derogatory terms used by Congress leaders against the Prime Minister, including “snake,” “scorpion,” “demon,” “pickpocket,” and “coward,” and noted insults directed at the Prime Minister’s family.
Nadda accused Gandhi of using reservation and caste politics to incite division, while criticizing his contradictory statements abroad about ending reservations and rights for marginalized communities.
During a speech at a US university, Rahul Gandhi stated that the Congress would consider abolishing reservations only when India becomes a “fair place,” implying that the current situation does not meet that standard.
The BJP seized on this comment, accusing Gandhi of revealing his bias against reservations. BJP President JP Nadda countered by claiming that the Congress has undermined Indian democracy by imposing the Emergency, supporting triple talaq, and weakening constitutional institutions.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted a series of “objectionable, violent, and indecent” remarks directed at Rahul Gandhi. He cited incidents including Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu’s “Number 1 terrorist” comment, a Shiv Sena leader’s reward offer for silencing Gandhi, and Delhi BJP leader Tarwinder Singh Marwah’s threat of a fate similar to Indira Gandhi’s.
Kharge emphasized that Indian culture, known for non-violence and love, has traditionally upheld respectful political discourse, a legacy rooted in Gandhi’s principles during the British era.
Kharge expressed concern for the large number of Congress workers troubled by the BJP leaders’ attacks on Rahul Gandhi. He linked such hate-driven rhetoric to the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi, calling it a disgraceful example in democratic history.
Kharge urged the Prime Minister to enforce decorum and take strict legal action against such remarks to protect the integrity of Indian democracy.
