Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a speech in Wardha, Maharashtra, linking Gandhi’s recent remarks made in the United States to an “anti-national agenda.” Modi accused the Congress party of being influenced by what he termed the “tukde tukde gang” and “urban Naxals,” terms he has previously used to describe those he believes wish to fragment India.
In his address, Modi specifically targeted Gandhi’s comments regarding religious freedom and the scrapping of reservations, which he deemed disrespectful to Indian culture and faith. He asserted that Gandhi’s remarks were not accidental but part of a deliberate strategy to undermine national unity for electoral gain.
Additionally, Modi addressed backlash he faced for attending a Ganesh puja at Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s residence. Without directly mentioning the incident, he suggested that the Congress party’s opposition to such religious practices was part of a broader policy of appeasement.
Gandhi’s statements in the U.S. included critiques of Modi’s governance, claiming that the atmosphere of fear previously instilled by the BJP had dissipated following the recent Lok Sabha elections. He argued that the BJP and RSS fail to appreciate India’s diversity and instead promote a singular narrative that undermines various communities within the country.
