The government of Andhra Pradesh will begin a complete and comprehensive caste census today, January 19, to enumerate all castes in the state. Meanwhile, the YSRCP government led by CM Jagan has set the caste census as a major goal. According to government sources, the caste census considers that the enumeration can transform the living standards of people.
The total exercise will be conducted by the village secretariat system along with the volunteer system in the state. Around 1.23 crore families consisting of 3.56 crore population in rural areas and 44.44 lakh families with 1.3 crore population in urban areas will be covered in this census.
In this regard, Visakhapatnam district Collector Dr. Mallikarjuna stressed that the caste-based census would begin in the district today. In fact, the census would be comprehensive, and the enumeration would be done by the staff of village or ward secretariats.
As per the latest schedule, the household survey will be held between January 19 and 28, 2024. In addition to that, the collection of complete details of remaining houses and persons will be conducted from January 29 to February 2, 2024, and data codification will be held until February 15, 2024. However, the training was also given to the survey staff at the zonal, mandal, and secretariat levels.
