The fatalities included five in Madhubani, four in Aurangabad, three each in Supaul and Nalanda, and two each in Lakhisarai and Patna, with one each in Begusarai, Jamui, Gopalganj, Rohtas, Samastipur, and Purnea.
According to the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, July alone has seen 50 deaths from lightning strikes, although unofficial figures could be higher.
Authorities cautioned residents to remain indoors during rain and thunderstorms, with heavy rains and lightning expected to continue over the next two days in several Bihar districts.
The Meteorological Department issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Kishanganj and Araria districts and predicted moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, especially in Patna.
In Barka Gaon Village, Tarari police station, 22 students were injured when lightning struck a palm tree near their classrooms on Thursday, necessitating their admission to Sadar Hospital Arrah. Additionally, 17 individuals in other districts suffered burn injuries due to lightning strikes.
Kishanganj District’s Bahadurganj block recorded 112.2 mm of rainfall, according to meteorological records.
