E-Challans Encouraging Commuters To Follow Traffic Laws
Road users in Kurnool City have historically had a propensity to drive carelessly, ignoring traffic signals and breaking laws, which frequently presented difficulties for other drivers and law enforcement officers. In order to register cases and penalize these violators, the police had difficulty apprehending them on their cell phones. On the other hand, the e-challan system's implementation has made it easier to book traffic infringement cases.
On the other hand, the e-challan system’s implementation has made it easier to book traffic infringement cases. Numerous offenders have been prosecuted as a result. Drivers of autorickshaws and other commuter vehicles are now more careful due to the recent implementation of electronic traffic challans. For the most part, they have avoided running red lights. In addition, the system waives the previous one’s onerous fine payment procedures by enabling traffic violators to pay their fines electronically. It is now impossible for offenders to avoid paying fines because the internet system keeps accurate and easily available records of infractions. Approximately 13,500 cases have been registered via the e-challan system since it was implemented in the first week of November. According to traffic DSP M. Nagabhushanam, people are afraid to cross signals even when there are no police officers present at various intersections in the city since they are being photographed by well-placed cameras.
Each time a red signal appears, the e-challan system triggers sophisticated CC cameras automatically. The cameras record infractions, produce electronic challenge notices on their own, and impose fines on the culprits. The police headquarters in Vijayawada keep a close eye on the system. Reduced traffic infractions are the main objective of this approach, according to a senior transport department official. 135 sophisticated CC cameras are currently placed at the city’s main intersections. Under the direction of the state DGP office, the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC), the Road Transport Authority (RTA), and the police cooperatively monitor the system. The senior official noted that public awareness campaigns have been held to inform the public about the e-challan system and the consequences of infractions. Autorickshaws, two-wheelers, and a small number of school buses are the main targets of the charges that are filed because they disregard traffic signals at city intersections.
