On Thursday, YS Sharmila, the sister of AP CM Jagan, joined Congress after merging her YSR Telangana Party into Congress. In this regard, Sharmila was inducted into the Congress party by AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and other top senior leaders. Sharmila said that her father, the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy, not only served the Congress party his entire life but also gave his life serving the party.
According to Congress party sources, YS Sharmila would be given a key post in the Congress ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Meanwhile, YS Sharmila is also likely to play a crucial role in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls of Andhra Pradesh, which will also be held in April or May 2024. However, the significant move by Sharmila comes a few days after the Congress party won the Telangana assembly polls.
