Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister, YS Sharmila, has officially merged her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress party today. Sharmila merged and joined the Congress party in the presence of Congress AICC Chief Mallikhargun Kharge, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and other top leaders at AICC headquarters in the national capital.
Earlier today, YS Sharmila arrived at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi ahead of YSRTP’s merger with the grand old Congress party. However, Sharmila constantly rendered her support to the Congress party during the recently concluded assembly polls in Telangana. She also regretted that she did not contest the Telangana assembly polls, as it would have led to the spilling of votes. However, the significant move by YSRTP chief Sharmila comes a few days after the Congress party won the Telangana assembly polls.
According to Congress party sources, YSRTP chief YS Sharmila would be given a key post in the Congress ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Meanwhile, YS Sharmila is also likely to play a crucial role in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls of Andhra Pradesh, which will also be held in April or May 2024. In fact, the Congress party won an absolute majority in Telangana for the first time, winning 64 of 119 seats, after the formation of a new Telangana state.
