Not A Cake Walk For Nayab Singh Saini Govt In Haryana Assembly Polls!
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana, led by Nayab Singh Saini, is encountering significant anti-incumbency sentiments as the state prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana, led by Nayab Singh Saini, is encountering significant anti-incumbency sentiments as the state prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections on October 1. An India Today C-Voter survey indicates that the BJP may face challenges in securing a return to power, with only 27% of respondents expressing satisfaction with the government’s performance. Additionally, 44% of those surveyed reported being dissatisfied, highlighting a growing discontent among the electorate.
Despite these concerns, the survey revealed that approximately 97% of participants believe the Saini government is honest. This suggests that while the integrity of the government is acknowledged, its effectiveness is under scrutiny. Currently, the BJP holds 40 seats in the 90-member Assembly, while the Congress has 31 seats, and Independents or other parties account for 19 seats.
The dissatisfaction with the BJP is further reflected in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the party won only five out of ten seats in Haryana, a significant drop from its previous clean sweep in 2019. The Congress party has gained momentum, increasing its vote share from 28.51% in 2019 to 43.68% in the 2024 elections, indicating a shift in voter sentiment that could impact the upcoming Assembly elections.
As the BJP aims for a third consecutive term in Haryana, it faces the dual challenge of addressing voter grievances and overcoming the legacy of a decade in power, which has led to increasing scrutiny and criticism from various segments of the population.
