A recent report in the Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar suggests that Rohan Jaitely, current president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), may be appointed as BCCI secretary if Jay Shah becomes the ICC chairman. Sources cited by the report indicate that Jaitely is the leading candidate for the position. According to ICC regulations, all 16 current ICC directors must submit their nominations by August 27 to be considered for the chairmanship.
Greg Barclay, the incumbent ICC chairman, has announced he will not seek re-election for a third term, thereby clearing the path for Shah. If Shah is elected, he would become the youngest ICC chairman ever at 36, following a distinguished line of Indian predecessors including Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
Jay Shah, currently serving as BCCI-appointed ICC director and chairing the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs sub-committee, is well-positioned for this role due to his influential positions and strong international support.
In related news, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied rumors about rescheduling the ICC Champions Trophy. With the 2025 Champions Trophy slated for Pakistan, the PCB has initiated a Rs12.8 billion renovation project for key stadiums, including the National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium, and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
