The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has organized an interview to clarify their relationship for the first time. In a teaser shared by the BCCI on social media, Kohli and Gambhir playfully teased each other about their numerous on-field confrontations.
Kohli questioned Gambhir about his mindset during these altercations, but Gambhir’s unexpected reply left him completely stumped.
Virat Kohli: “When you’re batting and engage in some banter with the opposition, did you ever feel it could distract you and lead to getting out, or did it motivate you more?”
Gautam Gambhir: “You’ve had more altercations than I have. I think you can answer that question better than I can.”
Virat Kohli (laughing): “I’m just hoping someone agrees with me. I’m not saying it’s wrong. I just want someone to say, ‘Yes, that’s what happens.'”
Kohli and Gambhir played key roles in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory. Now, they collaborate as player and coach to elevate the nation’s success in world cricket.
