Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced today that ‘Navi Mumbai International Airport’ is set to begin operations in March 2025. During a site visit with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Mr. Mohol reviewed the ongoing construction progress.
Given the current progress, the airport will be operational by March next year. It will significantly improve connectivity with neighboring areas such as Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kalyan, and western Maharashtra, Mr Mohol stated.
The minister emphasized the airport’s international standards and an anticipated annual passenger footfall of nearly 20 million. He expressed optimism about naming the airport after the late PWP leader DB Patil and assured that issues regarding compensation for project-affected persons (PAP) would be resolved through discussions with the management.
“We are committed to ensuring that people who have contributed land for the airport project are not displaced,” the minister clarified, emphasizing the government’s awareness of project-related issues and compensations.
He underscored Prime Minister Modi’s ongoing support for development initiatives in Maharashtra. Discussing the results of the Maharashtra council elections, Mr. Mohol praised the Mahayuti alliance’s performance and urged the Congress to reflect on its internal challenges.
