The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who had been in custody for 17 months over the Delhi liquor policy case. Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, expressed her relief, stating, “Justice can be delayed, not denied.”
The legal battle over the Delhi excise policy case has led to several high-profile arrests, including Arvind Kejriwal’s. On Thursday, a Delhi court extended his judicial custody until August 20 in the ongoing corruption investigation by the CBI.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended Kejriwal’s custody after his video conference appearance in court. The court is set to review a supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI against Arvind Kejriwal on August 12.
This charge sheet is expected to provide more details on the allegations, with Kejriwal named as the “main conspirator” in the case. Judge Kaveri Baweja extended his custody, citing CBI concerns that Kejriwal might influence witnesses if released.
Arvind Kejriwal, 55, was first arrested by the CBI on June 26 while already in judicial custody at Tihar Jail, where he was being held in connection with a money laundering case filed by the ED, which arrested him on March 21.
Despite receiving interim bail from the Supreme Court on July 12 in the ED case, Kejriwal remains in Tihar Jail, as he has not yet furnished the required bail bond.
