Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was welcomed by supporters and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders after his release from Tihar Jail on Friday evening, following over six months of incarceration. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court earlier that day in connection with the excise policy case, which has been a significant legal battle for him since his arrest in March 2024.
In a heartfelt address to the gathered crowd, which included his wife Sunita Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and other prominent AAP figures, Kejriwal expressed gratitude for their support, particularly in the rain. He remarked, “My life is devoted to the nation and I have faced a lot of struggles and hardship, but God has been with me because I walked on the path of truth.”
Kejriwal also criticized unnamed opponents, suggesting that they believed his imprisonment would weaken his resolve. He stated, “After I have come out of jail, my morale (‘haunsla’) and strength have gone up 100 times. I will follow the path God has shown me and I will keep serving the nation.” His comments reflect a determination to continue fighting against what he perceives as divisive forces in the country.
The Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail came with specific conditions, including a bail bond of 10 lakh, restrictions on entering his office, and a prohibition on making comments regarding the case.
