Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed condolences to Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Lasya Nandita’s death. Before the budget meeting began, non-party members paid tribute to BRS leader Nandita, who died in a road accident on February 23.
The 37-year-old passed away within three months of being elected to the assembly as a Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate. She is the daughter of BRS leader G. Sayanna, a five-time MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment constituency.
He passed away due to illness last year. By-election was held on May 13 in the seat left vacant by Nandita’s death. It was won by the ruling Congress.
Chief Minister recalled that he had a close relationship with Sayanna, who was born into a very simple family and reached the highest level of political life. Sayanna was soft-spoken and friendly with everyone, regardless of politics.
Sayanna fought to merge Secunderabad Cantonment into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The CM reminded that the people elected Lasya Nandita as the successor of Sayanna as Cantonment MLA. He said it is unfortunate that she died in a road accident.
“Sayanna and Nandita are both no longer with us but live forever in our hearts. Our government will fulfill their wishes,” he said, expressing deepest condolences to Nandita’s family members.
Congress, BRS, BJP, AIMIM, and CPI members expressed their condolences too. After all the members paid their respects to Nandita by observing a minute’s silence, the House was adjourned.
