Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, known for his explosive batting and consistent performances, has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. Dhawan made his ODI debut against Australia in October 2010 at Visakhapatnam.
Dhawan, who has been a key player for India in ODIs and T20s, made the announcement on social media, thanking fans and teammates for their support throughout his career. His retirement marks the end of an era in Indian cricket.
In fact, his Test debut was against Australia in March 2013 at Mohali, where he scored the fastest century by any batsman on his debut and ended his innings with 187 runs from 174 balls.
Dhawan played in 167 ODIs, 34 Tests, and 68 T20Is. He scored 2,315 runs in Tests, 6,793 runs in ODIs, and 1,759 runs in T20Is. During his career, he scored 17 centuries in ODIs and 7 centuries in Tests.
He was born on December 5, 1985, in Delhi, to Sunaina and Mahendra Pal Dhawan, into a Punjabi family. He completed his schooling at St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School in Meera Bagh, Delhi.
Since the age of 12, he has trained at Sonnet Club under the guidance of coach Tarak Sinha, who has trained 12 international cricketers. He is currently serving as the captain of the Punjab Kings team in the IPL.
