Rohit Sharma and his Indian cricket team had a rigorous training session at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on Monday in preparation for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. All 16 squad members participated in the practice, their third since arriving in Chennai last week. The first Test is set to begin on Thursday.
Following a day off, the team focused on honing their skills with Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal among the first to hit the nets. They faced bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin, working on their techniques against spin. Kohli and Jaiswal were joined by Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan in the next set of drills. Khan had just arrived from the Duleep Trophy match in Anantapur. Sharma concentrated on adapting to Bangladesh’s slow bowling attack.
Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Siraj also participated in practice, facing local bowlers and receiving throwdowns. The practice pitch showed good bounce, which will be crucial for the upcoming match.
India has two more practice sessions scheduled before the series opener. The Chennai pitch typically benefits spinners, so India is likely to field three spinners and two pacers. Expected spinners include Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav, while Bumrah and Siraj will lead the pace attack. Axar Patel might miss out, and Dhruv Jurel could be benched if Pant returns to the XI.
