Soumya had a strike rate of 111.92 while scoring 169 runs off of 151 deliveries. The left-handed hitter destroyed the Kiwi bowling attack in the opening inning, hitting 22 fours and two sixes. By hitting a brilliant inning against New Zealand, the 30-year-old broke Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored by a player from the subcontinent in ODIs in Auckland.
The ‘Master Blaster’ crushed the Kiwis in Christchurch in 2009, scoring 163 runs without losing. Additionally, he made the most runs in the ODI format by a cricketer from Bangladesh on an away field. When it came to the game, New Zealand chose to field first at the Saxton Oval after winning the toss. No other player was able to score more than 50 runs in the first inning, leaving Soumya Sarkar (169 runs from 151 balls) as the only player who stood out among his peers. Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper, contributed significantly to the middle order and helped the “Bengal Tigers” post 291 runs on the board with 45 runs from 57 balls. In contrast, the Kiwi bowling assault was spearheaded by Jacob Duffy and William Orourke, who each claimed three wickets in their individual periods. Everybody else who took a wicket was Adam Milne, Josh Clarkson, and Adithya Ashok. For New Zealand to win the third and final game of the three-match ODI series, they must score 292 runs in 50 overs during the run chase.
