An indefinite strike by the municipal workers has entered its 9th day today near the Gooty Municipality office, and it has taken on a distinctive form of protest. Meanwhile, the municipal workers primary grievances include calls for equal pay for equal work, health security, job opportunities for families of those who succumbed to COVID-19, and a minimum wage of Rs. 26,000 per month.
The indefinite strike has not only disrupted municipal services but also raised concerns among town residents. In addition to that, garbage accumulation has become a pervasive issue, causing unpleasant odors throughout the town. However, the municipal workers placed dry grass on plates and consumed it in a creative demonstration to highlight their demands.
Meanwhile, the drinking water supply was hit in several areas after municipal workers stopped attending to their duties. Similarly, streetlights have not been switched off in interior parts of urban areas since Sunday. The sanitation services were already hit in all areas due to an abrupt stop to the daily collections. However, the indefinite strike by municipal workers left many main roads in Anantapur into garbage dumps.
