Mizoram Chief Minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) supremo Zoramthanga loses from his constituency in Aizawl East-I. As the counting of Mizoram elections 2023 is underway, the latest report shows that TBC Lalvenchhunga from Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has won the seat in Aizawl East-1. By 2,101 votes the CM lost his constituency in Aizawl. The ZPM has now won 27 seats in the Mizoram Assembly election, while MNF has won 10 seats and BJP has won only 2.
The ZPM party is in leading by defeating Mizoram deputy CM and Mizo National Front leader Tawnluia by a margin of 909 votes. There is tough competition between two parties in Mizoram. The BJP candidate K Beichhua from the Saiha seat has been proclaimed the victor of the election. K Hrahmo of the BJP had previously won the Palak seat. The saffron party has accomplished a great deal in the state with the acquisition of these two seats.
The party had only previously secured one assembly seat, a feat it accomplished for the first time in 2018. The BJP’s strategy of focusing resources on seats with sizable populations of ethnic minorities appears to have paid off, as the party has gradually increased its influence in the state despite not making much gain among the Christian Mizos in the state.
