CPM Leader Lifts IndiGo Boycott For Delhi Flight After Sitaram Yechury’s Death
Former LDF convener EP Jayarajan, who had previously boycotted IndiGo for over two years, flew to Delhi on the airline from Karipur airport on Thursday night.
Former LDF convener EP Jayarajan, who had previously boycotted IndiGo for over two years, flew to Delhi on the airline from Karipur airport on Thursday night. Jayarajan had avoided IndiGo since July 2022 due to a flying ban imposed after a scuffle on a flight with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
He chose IndiGo this time to swiftly travel to Delhi and pay his respects to the late CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Mr. Jayarajan emphasized that Sitaram Yechury’s significance outweighed his previous stance on IndiGo, making it essential for him to reach Delhi swiftly.
On June 13, 2022, during a flight from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram, Youth Congress workers protested against the Chief Minister inside the IndiGo aircraft. Jayarajan, present on the flight, was accused of pushing the protesters.
Subsequently, IndiGo imposed a three-week flying ban on Jayarajan and a two-week ban on the protesters. Following the airline’s decision, Jayarajan had publicly condemned IndiGo, declaring that neither he nor his family would fly with the airline, whether domestically or internationally, citing better alternatives in the country.
He even stated he would prefer to walk to his destination rather than board an IndiGo flight again. The Youth Congress workers had protested against the Chief Minister over allegations related to a gold smuggling case.
The two protesters and another Youth Congress member were charged with attempted murder by Kerala police in connection with the incident.
