The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rain across southern, western, and northwest India over the next week. In South Peninsular India, expect scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy falls likely in Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka at various times. Coastal Karnataka may experience isolated very heavy rain from August 24-26.
West and Central India will see widespread light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy rainfall in Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch, and several other regions between August 24-29. Isolated very heavy rain is also predicted for parts of East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
In Northwest India, widespread light to moderate rain is expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan on specific days. Isolated very heavy rain may occur in West and East Rajasthan.
East and Northeast India will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers expected in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.
The IMD notes that the Monsoon trough is currently south of its normal position, and the offshore trough extends from south Gujarat to south Kerala, which is likely to persist for the next few days.
