Ex-Assam Congress Leader Angkita Dutta Likely To Join BJP

Former chief of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC), Dr Angkita Dutta, is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. Along with Angkita Dutta, ex-Congress MLA Bismita Gogoi will also join the BJP. Earlier, Dutta claimed that she was harassed by the president of the party’s youth wing, BV Srinivas.

Assam police filed a case on April 22, based on the complaint filed by Dr Angkita Dutta, ex-President of the Assam Youth Congress, against Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV. The complaint alleges that Srinivas BV has been harassing and discriminating against her for the past 6 months.

Angkita was eventually removed from Congress’s primary membership due to her anti-party actions. As per party sources, apart from Angkita Dutta and Bismita Gogoi, several others, including former leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), will also join the BJP today.

Meanwhile, at the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati, the Assam BJP unit has arranged a membership event today. However, yesterday the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) received a resignation letter from the former Congress MLA from the Khumtai constituency in Golaghat, who had resigned from her main membership in the party.
