West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wrote another letter to PM Narendra Modi, expressing concern over the lack of response to her earlier appeal for stronger legislation on crimes against women. In her latest letter, Banerjee accused the central government of not taking her concerns seriously. “No reply was received from your end on such a sensitive issue,” she wrote.
Earlier, CM Mamata wrote a letter to PM Modi on Thursday, seeking stricter legislation on rape cases. This was done amid public anger against Mamata government over the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor in a government-run hospital in Kolkata.
Even the Supreme Court said it was “unable to comprehend” how the state was unable to “handle the vandalism issue” at the hospital. In response, Centre pointed out that West Bengal has been allocated 123 fast-track courts, but a majority of them are not functional yet.
