BJP Failed Farmers By Not Granting MSP Based On “Swaminathan Formula”: Jairam Ramesh

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has accused the central government of betraying its promise to farmers by failing to grant legal status to the minimum support price (MSP) based on the ‘Swaminathan formula.’
This criticism follows the government’s announcement of Bharat Ratna for former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh, and agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan. Ramesh, in a statement on ‘X,’ asserted, “The Modi government remains silent on providing legal status to the minimum support price for farmers as per the Dr. Swaminathan formula. The Prime Minister’s obstinacy resulted in the sacrifice of 700 farmers during the movement, and the government has reneged on its commitment to the farmers.”
Reflecting on the 2020 farmers’ protest, Ramesh emphasized that farmers are prepared to launch another march to Delhi, but the government has not heeded their concerns. Regarding the recent Bharat Ratna awardees, he praised Shri PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh, and Dr. MS Swaminathan as enduring contributors to India, deserving of respect for their unparalleled contributions.
Ramesh stressed that justice for farmers would only be achieved through a legal guarantee of the minimum support price. He added that providing such a guarantee would be a genuine tribute to Chaudhary Charan Singh and Swaminathan.
