BJP Distances Itself From Kangana Ranaut’s Remarks On Farmers Protest
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distanced itself from the controversial statements made by its Member of Parliament (MP) Kangana Ranaut regarding the farmers' protest.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distanced itself from the controversial statements made by its Member of Parliament (MP) Kangana Ranaut regarding the farmers’ protest. In an official statement, the party expressed its disagreement with Ranaut’s remarks and directed her to refrain from making such statements in the future.
Ranaut, known for her provocative statements, recently courted controversy by suggesting that the farmers’ protest could have led to a Bangladesh-like crisis in India if not for the decisive actions of the Modi government. The newly-elected Mandi MP took to social media and shared a video alleging that during the protests, “bodies were seen hanging and rapes were taking place”.
The BJP stated that Ranaut’s comments do not reflect the party’s stance and that she is not authorized to speak on policy matters on behalf of the party. The ruling party has directed Ranaut to refrain from making such statements in the future.
Ranaut’s remarks did not go down well with her own party leader from Punjab, Senior BJP leader Harjit Garewal, who asked her to refrain from such comments. Garewal stated that it is not Ranaut’s department to speak on farmers and that her statement is personal. He emphasized that Prime Minister Modi and the BJP are farmer-friendly and that opposition parties are working against them, and Ranaut’s statement is doing the same.
The BJP’s response came a day after Ranaut’s controversial video went viral on social media, sparking outrage among farmer organizations. Farmer groups have asked the Punjab government and the Centre to investigate at whose instance Ranaut is “spitting venom” against the protesters.
