The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress party have failed to reach an agreement on seat-sharing for the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls, which are scheduled for October 5, 2024. This impasse has led both parties, part of the opposition INDIA bloc at the national level, to consider contesting the elections independently.
Sources indicate that AAP was seeking to contest at least 10 seats, while Congress was only willing to allocate three. This disagreement has stalled negotiations, despite initial discussions that suggested a possible alliance. Congress leader Deepak Babaria emphasized that any coalition must create a “win-win” scenario for both parties, but no consensus has been achieved.
In response to the lack of progress, AAP released its first list of 20 candidates on September 9, including prominent figures such as Anurag Dhanda and Indu Sharma. AAP’s Haryana chief, Sushil Gupta, stated that if no agreement was reached by the end of the day, the party would proceed to announce candidates for all 90 assembly seats. Meanwhile, Congress has already announced candidates for 41 seats, further complicating the prospect of an alliance.
