The Madhya Pradesh government has significantly increased the insurance limit for women undergoing surrogacy from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. This decision, made during a review meeting of the State Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board, aims to provide better financial support to surrogates. Health Minister Rajendra Shukla, who chaired the meeting, directed the board to expedite decisions on surrogacy cases, ensuring proper consideration. An official confirmed that notification will be issued soon to formalize the increase.
Currently, Madhya Pradesh has 126 registered institutions under the State Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Regulation Act 2021, which includes various clinics and ART banks. The meeting also decided to extend the deadline for uploading F forms filled during sonography to within five days instead of the same day, streamlining the technical procedures for digital Form F submissions.
Additionally, recent modifications to the Surrogacy (Regulation) Rules, 2022, by the Centre, now allow a child to be born through surrogacy even if only one gamete comes from the intending couple, provided they have a certified medical condition. Single women, such as widows or divorcees, must use their own eggs and donor sperm for surrogacy procedures.
