Former US President Donald Trump has requested the US Supreme Court to cancel the Colorado State Supreme Court order. His request comes after the Colorado State Supreme Court’s order removing him from the state’s 2024 ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrectionist clause.
As per the reports, in the filing, Trump’s attorneys wrote that in their system of ‘government of the people, by the people, and for the people,’ Colorado’s ruling is not and cannot be correct. There is increasing pressure on the Supreme Court to rule on whether GOP front-runner Donald Trump is eligible to be removed from public office.
The federal criminal prosecution against Trump may be impacted by other instances in which the top court is now concerned. Donald Trump’s appeal comes a week after the Colorado GOP, which is also a party in the case, filed a separate appeal, and two weeks later the Colorado ruling came down.
The decision has been halted while appeals are processed, and Colorado’s chief election official has stated unequivocally that, barring a decision from the US Supreme Court, Trump’s name would appear on the state’s primary ballot upon certification on January 5.
