Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong message regarding crimes against women during the Lakhpati Didi event in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, on Sunday. He emphasized that those who commit such offenses “will not be spared,” describing these crimes as an “unpardonable sin.”
Modi’s remarks come in response to the recent public outrage over high-profile cases, including the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata and the sexual abuse of schoolchildren in Badlapur. He stated that it is the responsibility of both society and the government to ensure the safety and dignity of women. “We are reinforcing and tightening laws to impose stricter penalties for those who commit these sins,” he asserted.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s initiatives to improve legal frameworks and enhance enforcement mechanisms. He mentioned the introduction of amendments to existing laws and the establishment of new systems that facilitate easier access to justice for victims. Modi pointed out that the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been implemented to address previous complaints regarding the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs), allowing women to file e-FIRs without needing to visit a police station, thus preventing any tampering with their complaints.
