A senior executive of a Jindal Group company allegedly showed porn clips and misbehaved with a woman on a flight from Kolkata to Abu Dhabi. Naveen Jindal, chairperson of Jindal Steel, assured the woman that the matter will be investigated as soon as possible and strict action will be taken against the executive.
In a series of posts on Friday X, the woman, the founder of an organization working on menstrual rights, said she had flown to Boston and taken a transit flight of Etihad Airways to Abu Dhabi, sitting next to a man. She started a conversation with him. She identified the man as Dinesh Kumar Saraogi and estimated his age to be around 65 years.
“He asked if I enjoyed watching movies & of course I did. Then he told me he had some movie clips on his phone. He whipped out his phone and earphones to show me porn!” she wrote. “He started grabbing me. I froze in shock and horror. I finally ran to the washroom and complained to the air crew. Thankfully the Etihad team was very proactive and took immediate action. They made me sit in their seating area. And offered me tea & fruits,” she added.
The woman claimed that after she left her seat, Saraogi kept calling staff to ask where she had gone. She said the airline informed police in Abu Dhabi, who were waiting by the runway when the plane had landed, but she was unable to file a complaint because she had to take her connecting flight to Boston.
The tagged Naveen Jindal in her post on X, she said she was trying to inform him about the incident. “I’m also afraid of how this harasser would treat his female employees from a position of power. I’m fine, a little confused and disturbed. I’m violated, but I want to make sure this doesn’t happen to another woman.”
Responding to the woman, Jindal group chairperson and BJP MP Naveen Jindal said his group of companies has a zero-tolerance policy on such issues. “Thank you for reaching out and speaking up! It takes a lot of courage to do what you did and I want you to know that we have a zero tolerance policy towards such things. I have asked the team to look into the matter immediately and after that, strict and necessary action will be taken.” The woman responded by thanking him.
