Responding to allegations of dog meat being supplied to hotels in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government on Saturday announced that the meat seized at the Majestic railway station has been sent to a food laboratory for analysis, and action will be taken based on the results.
The Karnataka Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSA) Commissionerate said that information was received on Friday evening that mutton and other meat were being supplied to Bengaluru by train. A police team and officials from Karnataka FSSA went to the railway station and conducted inspections. During the inspection, it was found that the parcels that had arrived from Rajasthan were being loaded into the vehicle in the outer premises of the station.
There were 90 parcels, which were checked and found to contain animal meat. Samples are collected and sent to a food laboratory for analysis regarding animal species. Based on the analysis reports, further legal action will be taken, officials said. They added that on Friday evening, some communities protested, alleging that dog meat was being supplied to hotels in Bangalore from Rajasthan.
Hindutva activist Puneeth Kerehalli and others staged a protest near the Majestic Railway Station in Bengaluru, alleging that mutton and cow meat were being supplied from Rajasthan to Bangalore. A case has been registered against them for obstructing the police on duty. The Cottonpet police took Puneeth Kerehalli into custody under Section 132 (obstructing the duties of public officers) and Section 351 (2) of the BNS Act for disturbing the peace.
