The Duleep Trophy is one of India’s most prestigious domestic cricket tournaments, named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji, a legendary Indian cricketer. It began as a knockout competition featuring five zonal teams: North, South, East, West, and Central.
Established in 1961-62 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the tournament was initially designed to provide a competitive platform for India’s top regional teams.
In 2016, the format was revamped to include three teams selected by the BCCI: India Blue, India Red, and India Green, making it a round-robin competition.
The Duleep Trophy has been a breeding ground for future Indian cricket stars, with many players using their performances in this tournament to earn a spot in the national team. It has also featured some of India’s greatest cricketers, making it a significant part of India’s cricketing history.
