Five people were killed in Chennai as heavy rains lashed out parts of the city because of Cyclone Michaung. Several areas of Chennai are inundated due to heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging. As per IMD, the cyclone is moving parallel towards Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier, the cyclone moved at 100 kmph and intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. The cyclone continued to move north-northwestward, intensifying further, and reach the west-central bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by today.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, and Puducherry CM N. Rangasamy over cyclone ‘Michaung’. He inquired about relief and rescue measures as well as other steps to ensure no loss of lives and minimize the damage from the impending cyclone.
