As Sindhu aims for a third consecutive Olympic medal in Paris, the future of India’s badminton legacy may rest with two promising young men. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who exited the group stage at Tokyo 2020, are now one of India’s top medal prospects for Paris 2024, ranked No. 3 in the world.
Since Tokyo, they’ve achieved significant milestones, including India’s first Thomas Cup title and gold in men’s doubles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. In October 2023, they became the first Indian doubles pair to hold the world No. 1 ranking and received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.
Standing over 6 feet tall, the duo presents a formidable challenge, with Satwik holding the Guinness World Record for the fastest badminton smash at 565 km/h. In 2024, they have reached three finals, winning one.
As they head into Paris 2024, Satwik-Chirag are strong contenders for the men’s doubles gold, adding to India’s potential for a successful badminton outing, with Sindhu also competing for a third Olympic medal.
