The United Liberation Front of Assam’s (ULFA) pro-talks side, the Centre, and the Assam government inked a tripartite agreement, which Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described as a historic occasion. He predicted enduring peace in the state as a result of this.
“For Assam, today is historic. Under the direction of Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Assamese peace process has been under way. With the Adivasi, Karbi, and Bodo rebel groups, we did reach an understanding,” Sarma stated.
After the deal was signed, he spoke at a press conference in Delhi. “The people of Assam will have many of their dreams fulfilled by this accord. This has generally been made feasible by PM Modi’s outreach to Assam and other northeastern regions,” Sarma continued.
Sarma promised that the Center and the State Government would fully implement the issues outlined in the tripartite agreement. The agreement was signed by a 29-member delegation of the ULFA’s pro-talks delegation, which included of 16 ULFA members and 13 representatives from civil society.
