Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a three-day visit to Poland and Ukraine, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties with both nations. His first stop is Poland on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years.
The visit also coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. “My visit to Poland coincides with the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations.
Poland is a crucial economic partner in Central Europe, and our shared commitment to democracy and pluralism strengthens our ties,” said Prime Minister Modi in his departure statement.
During his visit, he will hold bilateral meetings with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda, and also engage with the Indian community. Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi will travel to Ukraine on August 23, marking the first visit by an Indian PM since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1992.
“At the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, I will be visiting Ukraine to strengthen bilateral cooperation and discuss peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflict,” the Prime Minister stated in his departure message.
The statement described the visit as a “natural continuation of extensive contacts” with Poland and Ukraine, aimed at building stronger bilateral ties. In Kyiv, the PM’s engagements will cover various aspects of bilateral relations, including political, trade, economic, investment, education, cultural exchanges, people-to-people connections, and humanitarian assistance, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
India has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. Prime Minister Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the 50th G7 Summit in Italy on June 14, calling the discussions “very productive.”
Modi emphasized India’s commitment to supporting a peaceful solution. Since the conflict began, India has maintained a balanced stance, engaging with both sides and providing humanitarian assistance to Kyiv, including essential medicines and medical equipment.
