Kolkata Case: Why Is CBI Considering Polygraph Test For Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh?
The Central Bureau of Investigation is considering a polygraph test for Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, due to "discrepancies" in his interrogation responses, according to a CBI official.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is considering a polygraph test for Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, due to “discrepancies” in his interrogation responses, according to a CBI official.
Earlier this month, a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered in a seminar room at the hospital where she worked, after taking a rest during her exhausting 36-hour shift. Kolkata police arrested Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, for the murder after finding his Bluetooth headphones near the victim’s body.
The CBI has been questioning Sandip Ghosh, who resigned two days after the crime, to determine if the murder was part of a conspiracy. Reports indicate that the agency inquired about his initial reaction upon learning of the murder and questioned why he delayed the release of the victim’s body to her parents for three hours.
The CBI informed the media that they intend to use a polygraph test to verify Sandip Ghosh’s responses. “We want to further verify Ghosh’s answers due to discrepancies in some of his replies. Therefore, we are considering conducting a polygraph test,” a CBI official told the media.
The CBI has also questioned Sandip Ghosh about the person he contacted upon learning of the murder and sought details about the authorization for renovating rooms near the seminar hall where the body was found.
Additionally, the agency has recently received court approval to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjoy Roy. Sandip Ghosh’s questioning started following the Calcutta High Court’s observation that he should have been the primary person interrogated.
The Supreme Court criticized the West Bengal government on Tuesday for delaying the FIR registration, questioning the actions of Ghosh and the hospital administration after the murder was discovered. The court also noted that Ghosh attempted to label the murder a suicide.
