While addressing a press conference on Friday, Australia’s former conservative prime minister, Scott Morrison, revealed that during his tenure in government, he took medication for “debilitating” anxiety.
Morrison said that the worry he felt in government was debilitating and agonizing. Morrison’s conservative coalition lost power in May 2022. For four years, the 55-year-old evangelical Christian leader oversaw catastrophes, including the COVID-19 outbreak and the massive Black Summer bushfires that occurred in 2019 and 2020.
Morrison said, “I think it just built up.” He referred to the period as “a very stressful period,” citing the pandemic, hard hours, and challenging relations with China, which imposed trade obstacles on significant Australian exports during his term.
Morrison’s upcoming book, “Plans for Your Good: A Prime Minister’s Testimony of God’s Faithfulness,” will be published in May. Morrison was given an anxiety medication prescription by a Canberra doctor.
Morrison remarked that his doctor was shocked; he had survived as long as he had before seeking help. Serious depression would have emerged in the absence of assistance. According to Morrison, anxiety may have a significant personal influence.
He further mentioned that we can’t get out of bed, and we fear what lies ahead. It has the power to physically and mentally exhaust us. It takes away your happiness and might strain your bonds with others.
He also said that he can attest to this from his own experience. Morrison, a fervent advocate for the fossil fuel sector, declared in January that he was quitting politics.
