Godavari river is flowing rapidly due to continuous rains, causing flooding in many villages in East Godavari and West Godavari districts. The overflowing rivers and lakes have disrupted road transport and blocked roads to remote areas, bringing life to a standstill. Authorities released flood water, submerging thousands of acres of agricultural fields, into the sea. The water level at the spillway is 29 meters.
Polavaram project across the Godavari has seen a sudden increase in floodwaters due to heavy rains. The flood inflow was recorded at 3,27,850 cusecs, while the outflow was at 3,00,125 cusecs. Heavy rain has been reported in various parts of East Godavari district, including Rajahmundry, Rajanagaram, Anaparthi, Kothapet, Amalapuram, and Pannavaram.
Approximately 7 thousand acres of agricultural fields have been submerged, as per reports. A temporary road has been constructed near Burgulanka in Konaseema district. The revered Devipatnam Mandal Gandipashamma Temple has been closed due to flooding. The road between Chintoor and Vararamachandrapuram has been cut off due to the Annavaram river overflowing. Several areas of Konaseema are underwater due to heavy flooding.
Raiwada and Konam reservoirs are receiving heavy inflow. The tribal villages of Eluru district were devastated. Due to this, transportation to agency areas has stopped. The road to about 20 villages has been cut off. Officials has announced a holiday for schools and colleges in many areas on Friday. Control rooms have been opened in the offices of the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and Tehsildar to help the people.
