Congress And BJP Become A Powerful Duo In Nizamabad
Electing four Congress, three BJP, and two BRS MLAs, the voters of the undivided Nizamabad district cast a divided ballot. Armoor, Kamareddy, and Nizamabad urban were won by the BJP, whereas Nizamabad rural, Bodhan, Yellareddy, and Jukkal (SC) were won by the Congress. Now confined to the Banswada and Balkonda Assembly regions, the BRS picked up eight MLA seats in the 2018 elections.

During the 1983 Assembly elections, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao suffered his first setback and hasn’t looked back. Nevertheless, BJP candidate Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy defeated him in the Kamareddy Assembly constituency. The BRS working president, Minister K.T. Rama Rao, was in charge of the Kamareddy Assembly constituency personally, although he was not successful in winning the seat. The party supremo has suffered greatly as a result of conflict within the Kamareddy BRS leadership and anti-incumbency sentiment. Nizamabad urban and Bodhan Assembly constituencies were taken over by BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the daughter of the chief minister, following the defeat of party MLAs Bigala Ganesh Gupta and Shakil Amer by BJP candidate Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta and Congress nominee P. Sudarshan Reddy. Kavitha’s attempts were unsuccessful in both contests, and she was humiliatingly defeated in the 2019 parliamentary election. Bodhan-based Congress candidate P. Sudarshan Reddy was elected to the legislature for the fourth time. Dr. R. Bhupathi Reddy defeated Bajireddy Govardhan, the nearest opponent and BRS MLA in the Nizamabad rural Assembly constituency. After defeating Hanmanth Shinde, the sitting BRS MLA, Thota Laxmikantha Rao, a rookie to politics, was elected as the Jukkal MLA. For the first time, three BJP candidates were elected to the constituencies of Nizamabad urban, Kamareddy, and Armoor. After defeating Congress nominee Mohammad Ali Shabbir and unseating sitting BRS MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta, Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta was elected as the BJP’s MLA from the urban area. The chance for Ganesh Gupta to become the first MLA to win a hat trick has been blown.
