Telangana BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the Congress government’s commitment to prioritize women’s welfare. On Saturday morning, Minister Prabhakar flagged off 80 new RTC (Road Transport Corporation) buses at the Ambedkar statue on NTR Marg.
Speaking at the event, the minister highlighted that the government had reacted swiftly and made the purchase within a few days of its formation. He assured that the government took measures to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey for women.
This new acquisition of buses aims to alleviate the increased traffic congestion in the buses due to the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme. The minister also stated that the RTC will provide more concessions and benefits in the future.
The newly added fleet includes 30 Xpress buses, 30 Rajdhani AC buses, and 20 Lahari sleeper cum seater buses. Furthermore, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is aiming to procure another 1,050 new buses.
This will cost around Rs. 400 crore, and the TSRTC will go ahead in this play during the current financial year itself. These buses are expected to be available from March 2024. The decision will be taken based on vacancies and operational requirements.
