BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that Telangana once again got a raw deal in the Union Budget. He said that they were hoping that significant funds would be allocated to Telangana, but nothing came to the state. “Even though there is a budget of more than ₹48 lakh crores and some states have been given a lot of attention, it is disappointing that there is no mention of Telangana in the entire budget,” KTR said. He added that the people of Telangana should think about what would have happened if they gave 16 seats to national parties like the BJP and Congress.
KTR said that the funds allocated to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, which have more seats in the Parliament, should be compared with the regional power of Telangana, and we should understand that our political identity and strength are crucial for the development of Telangana.
“BJP and Congress MPs did not utter a single word on behalf of the Telangana. If there were MPs from our party in Parliament, they would have strongly opposed the central government’s stance. Telangana people will definitely teach lessons to the BJP government, for not giving any funds even after winning 8 MP seats,” he said. He recalled that earlier BRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao had asked the central government to take a decision on about 35 guarantees given under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, and the then BRS government had written several letters and made appeals.
“National status was not given to irrigation projects in the state, even though we requested. We asked central institutions like IIM, but not a single one was given. There is no mention of additional funds for Mulugu University and Bayyaram Steel Factory, or the Railway Coach Factory at Kazipet,” he fumed.
