The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) will conduct an emergency meeting on the Nagarjuna Sagar project today, January 9. The crucial meeting came after AP officials have been trying for a week to release water from the Nagarjuna Sagar project’s right canal, but the CRPF forces are blocking it. However, the KRMB officials intervened on Monday and released water to Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, KRMB officials arranged this crucial meeting with top government officials from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Hence, the meeting to be conducted today became a top priority in this context. In fact, an emergency meeting has already been held under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Union Hydropower Department to reach a consensus between AP and Telangana, but it is getting postponed due to several issues.
According to the Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Act, management of the Nagarjuna Sagar project is temporarily under Telangana. In fact, a few hours before the Telangana assembly polls, the Telangana engineers, who came along with the AP police, penetrated the project, lifted the gates, and released the water. However, the situation became very tense with that development.
