The Indian stock market ended with losses today, January 18, 2024. By closing time, the Sensex lost 314 points and stood at 71,186.86 points, and the Nifty 50 lost 110 points and stood at 21,462.30 points. However, the Indian rupee stood at 83.13 against the dollar today.
The domestic stock market indices Nifty 50 and Sensex extended their huge losses into the third consecutive session today, January 18. In fact, in the three sessions of losses, both the Nifty 50 and the Sensex have fallen about 3% each. However, the Nifty 50 and the Sensex suffered their worst single-day percentage fall in about 18 months on Wednesday.

The Nifty 50 opened at 21,414.20 against the previous close of 21,571.95 and hit its intraday low of 21,285.55. Meanwhile, the Sensex opened at 71,018.86 against the previous close of 71,500.76 and fell about 835 points to hit the intraday low of 70,665.50. In addition to that, the BSE Midcap index suffered a mild loss of 0.08%, and the Smallcap index inched up by 0.02%.
The shares of Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, and Cipla closed as the top gainers in the Nifty 50 index. In the same way, the shares of LTIMindtree, NTPC, and HDFC Bank ended as the top losers in the Nifty 50 index. At least 31 stocks have suffered losses in the Nifty 50 index today.
