The stock market continued its positive momentum and closed in the green on Friday. The benchmark indices registered gains at the end of the day. The Sensex rose by 167.06 points, and closed at 71,595.49. The Nifty gained 64.55 points during the session, closing at 21,782.50.
The day was marked by volatile trading as the Sensex fluctuated within a range of 470 points before settling higher by 0.23%. In a same way, the Nifty50 exhibited resilience and closed up by 0.3% despite the intraday fluctuations.
Among the Nifty companies, 27 witnessed advances, and 23 faced declines. ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma, Apollo Hospitals, SBI, Grasim, and SBI were among the notable gainers. Among the companies on the list of top losers are Tata Steel, NTPC, ONGC, M&M, and Bharti Airtel.
Profit booking in public sector undertakings contributed to a nearly 3% decline intraday in the broader markets. The BSE MidCap and Smallcap indices ended 0.82% and 1.4% lower, respectively. Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal index experienced a decline of 1.5%, followed by the Nifty Auto and IT indices, each dropping by 0.4%. Conversely, the Nifty Bank index gained 1.5%.
