CLOSING BELL: Stock Market Ended With Huge Losses Today

The Indian stock market ended with huge losses today, January 23, 2024. By closing time, the Sensex lost 1,053 points and stood at 70,370.55 points, and the Nifty 50 lost 333 points and stood at 21,238.80 points. However, the Indian rupee stood at 83.15 against the dollar today.

Meanwhile, the midcap and smallcap indices are still in the green for the current month. However, the BSE midcap index is up over 1%, while the smallcap index is up about 2% in January so far. After today’s close, the Sensex is down 3%, while the Nifty 50 has declined over 2% in January so far.

At least 10 stocks are making gains in the Nifty 50 index today. Thares of Cipla, Sun Pharma, and Bharti Airtel ended as the top gainers in the Nifty 50 index. Shares of IndusInd Bank, Coal India, and SBI Life Insurance ended as the top losers in the Nifty 50 index.

Meanwhile, the Sensex opened 445 points higher at 71,868.20 and jumped as much as 616 points to the intraday high of 72,039.20. The index later erased all gains and sank 1,189 points to hit the intraday low of 70,234.55.
