As Telangana prepares for polling in all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies on May 13, a significant number of voters, totaling over 3.17 crore, are set to exercise their democratic right. In this electoral exercise, a total of 3,17,17,389 voters are eligible to cast their votes across the state. This electorate comprises 1,58,71,493 men, 1,58,43,339 women, and 2,557 individuals identifying as the third gender. Notably, 20,163 voters have opted for home voting, reflecting the diverse mechanisms in place to facilitate voting.
The electoral machinery in Telangana is robust, with a total of 35,809 polling stations established across the state. To ensure the integrity and security of the electoral process, a substantial workforce of 2.94 lakh personnel, including nearly a lakh security personnel, will be on duty during the polling.
In terms of candidates, a total of 525 individuals are contesting for all Lok Sabha seats in the state. The electoral landscape in Telangana presents a three-cornered contest, with the ruling Congress, the opposition BRS, and the BJP vying for electoral success.
Secunderabad constituency stands out with the highest number of candidates at 45, followed by Medak with 44 candidates, Chevella with 43, and Peddapalle (SC) and Warangal (SC) constituencies with 42 candidates each. In contrast, the Adilabad (ST) constituency has the lowest number of candidates, with only 12 individuals in the fray.
Key political figures are actively engaged in the electoral process, with Union Minister and state BJP President G. Kishan Reddy seeking re-election from Secunderabad. Additionally, BJP National General Secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar is contesting from Karimnagar, while BJP National Vice President D. K. Aruna is a candidate from Mahabubnagar.
