In a fiery election rally in Telangana’s Medak district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the opposition INDIA bloc, accusing them of undermining the rights of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (SC, ST, and OBCs) through their attempts to provide reservations to Muslims on the basis of religion.
Addressing a large public gathering, PM Modi asserted that he would not allow any such move that would come at the cost of the constitutionally-guaranteed reservations for the marginalized communities. He criticized the Congress party’s past efforts to include Muslims in the SC/ST quota in Andhra Pradesh, calling it a “pilot project” aimed at implementing the same across the country.
Delving into the history, the Prime Minister reminded the audience of the Congress government’s attempts between 2004 and 2010 to provide reservations to Muslims, despite legal challenges and the Supreme Court’s intervention. He accused the Congress of disregarding the Constitution and the legacy of Babasaheb Ambedkar, who had opposed reservations based on religion during the drafting of the Constitution.
Addressing the issue of the “double R (RR) tax” being collected in Telangana, PM Modi alleged that the money collected under this tax is being sent to Delhi, warning the Congress government in the state to stop this practice immediately. He cautioned that if the Congress comes to power at the Center, it will “rob our wealth” and take 55% of the collected funds.
The Prime Minister also took aim at the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in Telangana, accusing them of being “thieves” who have robbed the state. He claimed that the Kaleshwaram project, touted as a major achievement by the BRS government, was actually the “biggest scam” and that the Congress had previously raised concerns about it when in opposition, but now remains silent.
Emphasizing his commitment to the Constitution, PM Modi said that he has always respected the document, even going so far as to salute it before entering the Parliament. He accused the Congress of mocking the Constitution and degrading it with its “thirst for power,” citing instances such as Rahul Gandhi’s alleged insult of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister reiterated his support for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling it a “500-year-old dream of Indians.” He also criticized the restrictions on festival celebrations in Hyderabad, alleging that they were imposed solely for the sake of a “group of votes.”
Throughout his address, PM Modi sought to portray the BJP as the protector of the rights and interests of the SC, ST, and OBC communities, while painting the opposition as a threat to their constitutionally-guaranteed reservations and the overall well-being of the nation.
