The opposition parties may ask questions of the foreign minister and the suspended deputy ministers in the Maldivian Parliament over the controversy that erupted after three suspended ministers criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tour to Lakshadweep.
Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) member for South Galolhu, moved the Majlis (Parliament) yesterday to seek the foreign minister to give explanations for the incidents that had occurred. In addition, the MP pressed for the three deputy ministers who were suspended due to their anti-Modi posts to be given a hearing.
While addressing the media, Naseem also demanded that the ministers be terminated and a formal apology be issued by the Mohamed Muizzu government over the derogatory remarks made against PM Modi. He also reminded the current administration of the events involving China in Sri Lanka.
He further said that he believes it is beneficial to take advice from neighbors, particularly in light of the events surrounding Hambantota in Sri Lanka. As we as Maldivians are unaware of the agreements and memoranda the government is signing in China, I believe it is crucial that we closely monitor the activities taking place, he further added.
